London Fashion Week…

26 Sep

This year The Soil Association  had a stand in the Esthetica part of the London Fashion week exhibition. And as The Soil Association’s ONLY (Get us!) approved denim label they took us along to show of our fabulous collection, including a few Spring/Summer 12 sneak previews!

Esthetica has been running for the last five years and includes all the highlights from the ethical fashion world. This year the exhibition was sponsored by Monsoon and included brands such as the always exciting From Somewhere,  Amazing accessories designer Michelle Lowe Holder and that fabulously colourful denim label Monkee Genes… ooh, sorry! :P

The Soil Association sat us along side their other accredited brands, People Tree and Continental clothing. Both brands are very different to us and have collections with, T-shirts, hoodies and dresses but all use organic cotton and share similar ethics. Our range proves skinny jeans, be that Men’s or Women’s skinny jeans, purple, pink or Electric blue jeans, can be ethical, organic and fashionable all at the same time!

Up close and personal…

There was also lots of weird and wonderful things to see during the few days I was there, including the couple below, dressed entirely in black and white with rubber spiked masks, and a girl with a magpie on her head…

This lovely lady was in fact from Lost Property of London, who have a range of bags I fell in love with.

To finish off my time at London fashion week Wendy came and meet me, and we had an afternoon exploring, getting our eyelashes done and got to see a show…

I had an amazing time, see you next season fashion week!

Sense of Akasha…

26 Sep

Our Italian Monkee’s have been partying with Sense Of Akasha for the launch of their second album ‘Splended Isolation’. The album was launched in Habsburg Fortress ”Fortezza” on September 10th and take a guess what they wore… you got it, Monkee Genes!

Sense of Akasha, have been around since 2002 and play classical rock. The band is made up of two guitarists, bassist and a drummer, although they add in cello’s, banjos, mandolins and voice samples, just to mix things up a little…

The Monkee who attended the event described it as ‘A very charming and unique sound…and their music is full of energy’

But don’t take our word for it, check them out for yourself here

We had a little celebrity visitor in the office this week… Ollie Locke from Made in Chelsea stopped by to pick up some Monkee Genes.

As we are located in the Derbyshire dales we don’t often have many visitors, so was nice to have some one in, especially when that some one was as lovely as Ollie! He’s a big fan of Monkee,  so picked up a few pairs in Supa Skinny, Chino and the new style ‘genes’ Riders.

So keep an eye out for Monkee Genes in the new series of Made in Chelsea… ;)

Jeans for Genes day…The big question?

21 Sep

What are you going to wear?!

As you can imagine, in Monkee HQ we wear ‘genes’ pretty much everyday, but for some of you wearing jeans might not be the usual. So I have put together a couple of sugggestions for you….

The first is something you can wear to work to look smart and proving denim doesn’t just have to be for the weekend…

Classic Skinny Inky Blue with a beautifully bright red shirt, ‘comfy’ heels, tan satchel and rings for a hint of glamour!

And if you are lucky enough not to be working on Jeans for Genes day then here is a more casual outfit…

Classic Skinny Plum Sateen teamed with a slogan tee, leather jacket, some funky loafers, rucksack, lots of rings and a splash of red lippy!

(Loving the Plum for this A/W!)

And Boys, if your feeling the need for a bit of  ’Jean-spiration’ have a look here

I hope we have helped!

Jeans for Genes…

7 Sep

Monkee Genes have recently got involved with the charity Jeans for Genes because aside from the similar name they are also an excellent cause, raising money and awareness of genetic disorders. Jeans for Genes help children in the UK get the support and treatment they need to deal with their illness and we think that is a pretty worthy cause!

Jeans for Genes day is on the 7th October this year but Monday night was the launch party so I put my heels (and Monkee jeans) on and went along to Kettners restaurant and champagne bar to see what was going on! It was a great night filled with lots of lovely champagne, cocktails and canapés, a favourite being the mini fish and chips! There was great support from the celebrity world too with Kelis turning up to support the charity and looking fabulous after popping a mini Kelis out less than a month ago. Reality stars Gemma from TOWIE and Josie Gibson also took the limelight giggling and drinking away whilest showing off their new gorgeous figures! We also got chatting to Jay from Dirty, Sexy things who declared his love for Monkee Genes!

The very talented girl band Parade were also there and performed a few songs including an acoustic version of their song louder. The girls were brilliant, looked gorgeous and seemed really down to earth staying around to chat after.

Leaving was made easier when I spotted the goodie bags on the way out including Nail Rock wraps, St Tropez tan, Batiste dry shampoo, biscuits from Biscuiteers  (my new favourite biscuit company) and lots more…

Nokia sponsered the event and hosted a photo booth… See embarrassing picture below…

It was a great night and has made me even more excited for Jeans for Genes day!

To support the cause we are also giving £1 of every sale on the website to the charity from 7th Septmember to the 7th October!

Are you doing anything for Jeans for Genes day?
